چکیده

Pytochemicals of food and herbs are very potent antioxidants and free radical scavengers. It is accepted that these chemicals minimize DNA damage by reacting with free radicals and in this way they could prevent cancer. However, in some studies antioxidants increase incident of cancers instead of lowering it. These trials have caused a rethinking of the use of natural compounds as chemoprevention agents utilizing antioxidant concept. It was hypothesized instead that elements of food could react with enzymes crucial for cancer formation and growth. We choose two of these as an illustration of a concept. Urokinase and lipoxygenases are enzymes of a profound impact on cancer cells growth, metastasis and invasiveness. This article provides review of natural compounds, mostly antioxidants that are inhibitors of lipoxygenase and urokinase. Inhibition of these enzymes by food elements could prevent or reduce cancer growth in this way rather than utilizing antioxidant pathway.

PI3K and mTOR inhibitor, NVP-BEZ235, is more toxic than X-rays in prostate cancer cells

Background: Radiotherapy and adjuvant androgen deprivation therapy have historically been the first treatment choices for prostate cancer but treatment resistance often limits the capacity to effectively manage the disease. Therefore, alternative therapeutic approaches are needed. Here, the efficacies of radiotherapy and targeting the pro-survival cell signaling components epidermal growth fact...

Evaluation of Anti-cancer activity of Boswellic acid and Montelukast sodium against human prostate cancer cell line PC-3

Prostate cancer is a devastating disease for which current therapies are inadequate. Various lines of evidences have suggested the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) pathway and the leukotriene receptor pathway are potential targets for prevention or treatment of Prostate cancer. Thus, search for new anti-cancer drugs targeting 5-LOX and leukotriene is very essential and important. The objective of the pre...

QSAR Study of 17β-HSD3 Inhibitors by Genetic Algorithm-Support Vector Machine as a Target Receptor for the Treatment of Prostate Cancer

The 17β-HSD3 enzyme plays a key role in treatment of prostate cancer and small inhibitorscan be used to efficiently target it. In the present study, the multiple linear regression (MLR),and support vector machine (SVM) methods were used to interpret the chemical structuralfunctionality against the inhibition activity of some 17β-HSD3inhibitors. Chemical structuralinformation were described thro...

The Inhibitory Effect of KCN, NaN3 and some Bivalent Ions on Lipoxygenase Activity of the Purified Human Placental

Lipoxygenase(LOX) catalyzes irreversible transfer of oxygen molecule to Arachidonic and Linoleic acid to produce 13 Hydroproxy Octadecadienoic acid. Recent studies showed the involvement of Lipoxygenase products, leukotrienes, in inflammations and Lipoxygenase pathways acts as mediators of early inflammatory events in atherosclerosis. The aim of the present study was purification and characteri...

Design and synthesis of new esters of terpenoid alcohols as 15-lipoxygenase inhibitors

Objective(s): 15-Lipoxygenases are one of the iron-containing proteins capable of performing peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acids in animals and plants. The critical role of enzymes in the formation of inflammations, sensitivities, and some cancers has been demonstrated in mammals. The importance of enzymes has led to the development of mechanistic studies, product analysis, and synthesis of ...
